Arnica is an all natural pain reliever that comes in oil, gel or pill form derived from the plant Arnica montana. Arnica has been used in holistic practice for centuries to help heal injuries, bruises, etc. I keep arnica oil in my home to use on my dogs if they have any muscle soreness or stiffness. Mylah is prone to muscle soreness because of her diabetes. She has also taken arnica pills at the recommendation of her doctor. The arnica pills are much less harsh on the body unlike other prescribed anti-inflammatories like Rimadyl which can cause liver damage. This is the arnica oil I use* and below is how I use it for my dogs.

Injury / Muscle Pains / Arthritis / Bruises

-Used to alleviate any of the issues mentioned above by creating a salve or warm arnica compress. The salve can be 1 tbsp of arnica oil mixed with 1/4 cup of coconut oil or another carrier oil like beeswax. Gently massage the salve into the hurt areas (never on open wounds). You can also heat 1/2 cup of water and add 2 tbsp of arnica oil and dip a wash cloth in the mixture to create a warm compress (make sure it is not too hot). Hold the compress on the sore muscles for as long as the dog will tolerate.

Do not use arnica oil around the mucous membranes or to ingest. If you are interested in arnica pills for an anti-inflammatory, consult your veterinarian.
