I’ve been meaning to learn more about using CBD for dogs (short for Cannabidiol), an all natural, non-psychoactive concentrate extracted from hemp. And no, this is not marijuana. I got the opportunity to dive into understanding CBD for dogs thanks to the company, Treatibles, who specializes in making hemp wellness chews for animals. Treatibles’ main goal is to help alleviate anxiety in all animals through their grain free pumpkin and blueberry treats or their gel caps and CBD oil.

I was able to let my dogs try Treatibles pumpkin treats (gluten free, non-gmo and vegan) and they loved the treats, but I also did notice a difference after I gave them the treats. My dog Hudson is the one who mainly needs the CBD treats in order the be less anxious. With the fourth of July coming up and some houseguests arriving in a few weeks, I wanted to test how he responded to a dose of the Treatibles large treats.

One treat per 40lbs is recommended and Hudson is 80lbs so he ate two large treats. After about 30-45 minutes I noticed Hudson became more relaxed, but not lethargic or out of it. He simply didn’t start barking or growling at every noise he heard outside like he normally does throughout the day. When I work at home I usually have to have the TV or music on constantly so he doesn’t hear outside noise and get upset. Treatibles has definitely helped curb that issue for Hudson. He is much more relaxed and easy going which is how he should be! Dogs cannot overdose on CBD either, so you can give your dog another set of Treatibles in 4-8 hours depending on how your dog reacts.

I also let Mylah try a small Treatibles pumpkin treat because it is limited in ingredients and I feel it could also help with diabetic nerve pain she gets from time to time. After she has been running around or had a big day out she can become sore from her autoimmune disorders. Treatibles didn’t spike her blood sugar and I also noticed she was not as sore as she normally would be after playing in the yard. She also made such a derp face when I gave it to her the other day; how funny is her photo above?

So why choose Treatibles products to try out CBD on your dogs? Well, to start, this company is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to the effects of hemp on humans and animals. Treatibles was founded by  Julianna Carella, who is also the CEO, and the company is based out of Oakland, CA. After founding Auntie Delores to help humans through the use of CBD, Carella saw a need to also help animals who were suffering from anxiety. They saw amazing results with CBD for pets and wanted to help other pet owners alleviate anxiety in their animals.

Here’s more information on CBD and Treatibles that helped me understand the positive effects it has on our pets:

  • The non-psychoactive cannabinoids used in Treatibles’ proprietary formula are sourced from hemp grown in Colorado. It is a full plant extract which contains terpenes and other non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as CBDA and CBDV. This extract contains no THC.
  • Treatibles does not utilize THC (which is harmful to pets), the psychoactive cannabinoid, nor do they contain any cannabis. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause any “high” whatsoever.
  • All animals, except insects, have an endocannabinoid system and therefore respond to cannabinoids. The endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors through the brain and the body.
  • Your pet has natural messenger cannabinoids called anandamide that stimulate receptors present in their brain and throughout the body. The cannabinoids in cannabis attach to those same receptors and resist letting go, making the effect more powerful and longer lasting.

I asked the Treatibles team what they see as the biggest benefit for pets using the product…

“The biggest benefit we see at Treatibles is the reduction of severe anxiety in all animals. Since there are few products on the market that address this issue as well as phytocannabinoids, we see this as the biggest advantage of using Treatibles. Of course, because the endocannabinoid system regulates homeostasis and therefore many other physiological functions, it is difficult to pinpoint only one or two conditions. Treatibles works on a very deep level, addressing physical, mental, and emotional distress in all animals.”

After seeing a change in Hudson and Mylah from taking Treatibles I can honestly recommend them 100%. Mylah also responds well to them and since she is a special needs dog it is always great to find a treat that won’t mess with her diabetes or IBD and she responds well to CBD used for pain relief. As Izzy approaches her double digits in age I will also keep Treatibles in mind for any arthritic issues.

If your pet suffers from anxiety around the fourth of July or from thunderstorms, order Treatibles ASAP to be prepared for the upcoming holiday!
