There are so many benefits to brushing your dog’s teeth on a regular basis,
including preventing plaque and tartar buildup, preventing gum, dental or other diseases and maintaining nice fresh breath. The liver, heart and stomach can be greatly affected if your dog’s teeth are not regularly cared for and they can develop illness and disease as the result of poor dental hygiene.
As a mom to a diabetic dog, Mylah, her dental health is very important because like humans with diabetes, she suffers from poor dental hygiene simply because she is a diabetic. However, because I feed our dogs a raw diet, their teeth are greatly improved as a result. Izzy and Hudson have amazing teeth as they approach 7 and 8 years of age. Between Mylah’s raw diet and teeth brushing, we hope we can stay on top of her dental hygiene.
This simple, all-natural and easy homemade toothpaste includes ingredients that deodorize breath, scrub away plaque, whiten teeth and are antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. I’ve tried many commercial and store-bought toothpastes but never felt like I got great results with them like I do with my homemade toothpaste.
What you use to brush your dog’s teeth is also very important. A regular human toothbrush isn’t always a good idea to use because those aren’t made for dogs and what their teeth need. I use and LOVE Woobamboo’seco-friendly, all-natural and antimicrobial bamboo toothbrush. Hudson and Izzy use the large breed toothbrush and Mylah uses the small breed toothbrush. These brushes have soft bristles for their teeth, allow us to reach way in the back of their mouths and are so easy to clean (they clean themselves naturally) and bonus: they are good for the environment.I am giving away a Woobamboo family pack of toothbrushes for humans and dogs – see the end of the blog post to enter!
